Thursday it was Rick Pitino. Friday it was John Calipari being mentioned in a New York Daily News Story as a candidate to coach the New Jersey Nets. The story quoted an unnamed source. Calipari coached the Nets for two plus seasons before being fired in 1999.
The UK coach essentially shrugged off what he called "the Nets thing" today, but said fans should get used to it.
Calipari said "my name will be bandied about for every job that opens, including AAU jobs...I just say whatever."
He went on to add..."It's better than never being mentioned ever. "That means you're 5-20. If your teams win, that's the stuff that goes along with it. Our fans just have to accept that that's going to happen. It is never me putting my name in, now, but there will be more."
"I'm happy," Calipari added. "This school's committed. As long as they're committed to me and this basketball program, where would I want to go?"
