Bridges Authority meeting yields protesters

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- The Louisville and Southern Indiana Bridges Authority met this morning to discuss funding options for the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The fact that tolling is being discussed as a possible source of funds brought several protesters to the meeting. Many of those protesters were carrying yellow signs bearing phrases such as "No Tolls" and "Tolls R 4 Trolls."

Fox 41's Katie Delaune reported that 17 people signed up to discuss the issue of tolling in the meeting, but there wasn't time to give all of them a platform.

"This is an absolute travesty for our community to borrow money to build roads that I, my grandchildren and your children will be paying back to out-of-state bondholders," said Dan, a local businessman who spoke at the meeting. "That will not be money spent in the community."

One protester yelled "boondoggle" and was asked to be quiet.

In addition to tolling, possible sources of funding for the bridges include federal funds and higher taxes.
