Gym tells woman she's "too fat" for equipment

(FOX NewsEdge)-- An Oklahoma woman claims her gym's management told her she was too fat for the equipment after she already joined. Five months ago Sandra gave birth to her son. That birth however came with some additional weight.

Ruiz says she weighs about 385 lbs., so she tried joining a gym to get the weight off and that's where the problems began. While riding an exercise bike, a gym employee came over to her and asked her to get off.

Gym management says they told Ruiz when she joined that she over the maximum weight limit for some of the equipment.

She says that never happened.

"I'm tired being fat because when I go to the store I can't find clothes that fit me. I haven't worn jeans in about a year. The lady said I couldn't get on the machines because I am overweight. Everybody was watching seeing what was going on and I got very sad because I'm so emotional about my weight right now. If ya'll didn't want big people to get on your machine, ya'll would have told us and if we would have known, we wouldn't have came here," said Sandra Ruiz, who wanted to lose weight.

The gym's owner said he tried making up a workout program for her including water aerobics. He also has let her out of her contract and waived the cancellation fee.
