Groundbreaking for Parklands of Floyds Fork

Children will soon have a new place to play and cool off in the summer, as ground was broken for the Parklands of Floyds Fork on Monday.

It's a 4000-acre public park that will be developed along the Floyds Fork watershed in eastern Jefferson County.  A new play area and sprayground for kids will open next spring.

Dan Jones of 21st Century Parks explains, "We will have in this project everything from playgrounds and ball fields to a world-class urban trail system which will include 19 miles of the Louisville Loop.  We'll include hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and equestrian trails, and then at the far end of the spectrum we will have a quiet walk in the woods."

Metro Government provided a million and a half dollars for the project and the remaining funds were raised through private donations.
