LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB Fox 41) -- Comparing the addresses of Kentucky sex offenders with those of child care facilities or homes regulated by the state came up with thirty matches.
It was all part of an investigation by the state auditor's office. It later confirmed that sex offenders lived in twelve of the thirty homes. As for the other eighteen homes, either the offenders did not actually live at those addresses or where they lived could not be determined.
The Cabinet for Health and Family Services immediately announced new procedures to protect children from sexual abusers.
Those steps include criminal background checks for state-supported programs and improving comparisons of sex offender addresses and child care facilities.
The auditor's office called for stronger controls, including mandatory home visits by the state when it cannot find out whether a sex offender lives at a particular address.
