INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Authorities say two children killed in a fire east of Indianapolis on Monday suffered very bad burns and smoke inhalation. Cumberland police Chief Mike Crooke said yesterday that it could be several days before the cause of the condominium fire is confirmed. 8-year-old Forrest Eppert and 9-year-old Genesis Eppert died. Their mother is in critical condition.

RAMSEY, Ind. (AP) - State Police say a domestic dispute led to the fatal shooting of a southern Indiana man. Police say that preliminary autopsy results have determined 33-year-old Joe Johnson of Louisville died of a single gunshot wound to the chest Monday and that a domestic dispute at the Harrison County home of his girlfriend led to the shooting.

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - An Indianapolis attorney who represented a Morgan County man convicted in the 2000 death of an Indiana University student has apologized to the families of the victim and suspect for his actions during the trial. Attorney Patrick V. Baker told Eric Behrman he was sorry he alleged that Behrman's 19-year-old daughter, Jill, might have been pregnant at the time she was killed.

(AP) - Television executives are hoping robust storylines accompanying this year's Indianapolis 500 will help build interest in IndyCar beyond the signature race. Rich Feinberg, ESPN's vice president in charge of motorsports production, acknowledges that IndyCar ratings have been challenged in some areas. He says the best way for ABC-ESPN to help build the sport is through compelling story-telling.
