It may well be the biggest picnic in Kentucky and it's for a serious cause. The annual St. Joseph's picnic is this weekend.
The picnic is a lot of fun for lot of people; but the money raised here helps to support several programs for kids.
The spin of the wheel will be heard all day Saturday on the front lawn of the St. Joseph Children's home. Here you will be able to win almost anything.
Joe Straub predicts between up to 65,000 people will come here.
3,000 volunteers work almost year round to put on this picnic.
St Joseph's operates a residential program for about 70 abused kids who are wards of the state. The state pays about 70% of the cost of the program so the rest has to be found from other sources.
The picnic brings in a portion of that money. Other sources of revenue include grants and private fund raising.
The home also operates a foster care program and a day care center.
Those attending the big picnic this weekend should stay cool even in the August heat.
The event gets underway with a free concert with the Epics Friday evening. The picnic runs from noon until midnight on Saturday.
