Mayor's decision on wages expected

Mayor Abramson says he'll announce his decision on a prevailing wage ordinance as early as Tuesday.

Abramson told Fox 41 News he received the final copy of the bill Monday morning and discussed it with the County Attorney.

Thursday night, Metro Council passed the ordinance in a meeting that lasted until 1:30 a.m.  It would require contractors on city projects to pay union-level wages to their workers.

"I'm not going to make this decision as a Democrat or a Republican.  I'm going to make this decision in the best interests of the future of Louisville.  I'll make that decision in the next couple of days," said Abramson.

Unions and many council Democrats support the measure to boost workers' pay.

Business interests and Republicans oppose it, saying it would cost too much and squeeze smaller companies out of city projects.
