The University of Louisville says it will not lose its Level One trauma status.  U of L has hired new neurosurgeons to replace eight who left for the Norton Neuroscience Institute.

The doctors who are leaving will work at U of L until May 12th.  Those neurosurgeons say they are moving to Norton because it can better recruit neurosurgeons for the area.

U of L says some people in the community have since expressed concern over U of L's Level One trauma center status.  That designation means it can handle various types of medical emergencies along with trauma surgery.

U of L says it hired new faculty members who are also neurosurgeons.  Some are part-time, some are full-time.  U of L is working on appointing a permanent neurological department chair.

The neurosurgeons who left say they still want to teach at U of L, but work for Norton.  But U of L says doctors can't be full-time faculty and work for another hospital at the same time.
