400 new jobs coming to GE's Appliance Park

General Electric will build a new product at Appliance Park, meaning hundreds of new jobs for our area.  Louisville won out over two other cities vying for the expansion.

In a bad economy, this is great news for the city of Louisville.  GE is announcing 420 new jobs, as workers manufacture its new product line at Appliance Park -- a hybrid hot water heater.

GE has been making washers, dryers, dishwashers, and refrigerators at Appliance Park since 1953.

The 420 new jobs will have an average annual salary of $57,000.  GE is also planning to invest $61 million in the project.

Last Thursday, the state and Metro Council approved tax incentives for GE that equal $12.5 million.  GE officials say those tax incentives helped seal the deal.

The company also applauds union workers for approving a two-year wage freeze to help GE's future.
