Investigation into Cory Gibson plea

Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Stengel has ordered an investigation into why prosecutors abruptly ended a murder trial this week by offering the defendant a ten-year prison sentence.

Cory Gibson was on trial for the 2007 strangulation murder of ZoAnne McCampbell.

The Commonwealth's case hit a major snag when defense attorney Jay Lambert claimed prosecutors made an illegal secret deal with a key witness.  He reduced serious charges and offered probation to Michael Bryant in exchange for his testimony against Gibson.

Stengel hopes to determine by next week whether the prosecutors should be disciplined.
