Local fans remember Michael Jackson

"I've been a long time Michael Jackson fan. I'm so hurt. And I just wanted to get some remembrance from him," said Stephanie Williams, Michael Jackson fan.

So Williams bought Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall" CD at Better Days West on Thursday evening. Store owner Ben Jones reopened to accommodate Jackson fans eager to buy and to grieve. Fans arrived quickly once they heard Jackson's death confirmed.  "I always keep Michael Jackson well stocked. And within that 10 to 15 minutes we sold seven, 13, 14 pieces," said Jones.

Williams was in her car when she heard Jackson was stricken.  "I was hitting the steering wheel and driving down the highway. No! Not the King of Pop! And was praying for him and hoping he'd come through," said Williams.

Williams remembers Jackson appearing in Louisville very early in his career.  "I went to see him in concert with the Jackson Five as a little girl. I was eight, and the concert was at the Louisville Gardens," said Williams.

Now his music will stoke memories forever.

"He was one of the ones who in that age helped the barriers to be crossed. And I'm talking about the black-white culture. The R&B and the rock blending together. Everyone can listen to this guy. Everyone did listen to this guy," said Jones.

Jackson played Freedom Hall in 1988. Music stores expect a run on Jackson CDs over the next few weeks. They're all ready to make orders for the demand.
