Guest Editorial - Norton Healthcare (7/6/09)
Real people and real patients are being affected by this unfortunate situation. Some are your family members and some our very own Norton family.
As of July 1, Norton Healthcare and Anthem no longer have a contractual relationship. Our focus now is to help affected patients, physicians, employers and brokers understand their options on how to continue using the services of Norton Healthcare. Most of all, we want to assure all patients currently receiving care that you can continue that care uninterrupted.
Norton Healthcare first notified Anthem of severe service issues seventeen months ago. At their request, we gave Anthem time to fix the significant problems. But the fixes never came. If you have dealt with Anthem, you understand.
We make no demands on Anthem or any managed care organization. Our board of community volunteers does have a reasonable policy that all major insurers comply with similar standards of service and reimbursement. Is it fair for Anthem to demand that they be the only one to be treated differently?
We sincerely regret the understandable concerns this matter has created for all those affected.
