Two murders within blocks of each other in Louisville's west end

Police find two men shot to death in two separate incidents within one hour and six blocks of each other Thursday night.

First, police say a man found dead in a parking lot behind apartments on West Market Street was shot multiple times.

Metro police responded to a report of a shooting in the rear of an apartment building in the 2800 block of West Market Street about 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Homicide unit commander Lt. Barry Wilkerson described the victim as a man in his 30's.

Wilkerson said officers were working to recover numerous pieces of evidence that indicated the man had been shot several times. Police were interviewing witnesses at the apartment building nearby.

Upset relatives or friends ran to the scene within minutes of the arrival of police and EMS.

Officers said it was too early to talk about any suspects in the case.

The second incident involved police responding to a report of a shooting in the 3400 block of West Jefferson around 11 p.m.

They found a body of a man lying in the street. It was not clear as detectives responded, whether the death was related to the first shooting.

A police spokesman described the victim as being in his 40s and from the neighborhood.

The coroner's office had not identified either victim as of 1 a.m. Friday.

Anyone with information or tips is asked to call 574-LMPD.
