Fairdale Residents Cautious After Murders

As you look at the home on National Turnpike today, you find it hard to believe two weeks ago it was a major crime scene. This is where 83-year Sylvia Habich and her daughter, 53-year old Rita Carrico were found stabbed to death. Sylvia Habich was the widow of a popular metro police officer who died in 2004. Frank Habich was the city's last beat cop.

Since the day of the murders, many in the neighborhood have been extra careful. They're making sure their doors and windows are locked. One woman, the owner of a daycare center on the same block, says she's sleeping with a gun at night. Casey Snyder, the mother of several children says she no longer speaks to strangers in the neighborhood and she's keeping her eyes and ears open.

During initial murder investigation, metro police collected bags of evidence from the scene, but have yet to make an arrest. Anyone with information, should call metro police at 502-574-LMPD.
