Ind. faces delay in getting weatherization funds
Indiana still hasn't received any federal stimulus money to weatherize low-income residents' homes due to questions about its plans for distributing the money.
Federal officials have "conditionally" awarded Indiana its $131 million share of the money. That means none of the funds have been put to use installing new furnaces or insulating homes.
Gov. Mitch Daniels tells The Indianapolis Star he's frustrated with the delay and the federal concerns about Indiana's spending program for the money.
State and local weatherization officials say one reason for the delay is the Daniels' administration decision to send a large amount of the money through the politically active Indiana Builders Association.
Another concern is Indiana's decision to limit the money to people who have already applied for an existing assistance program.
