Fox 41 obtains copy of Sypher police interview

Fox 41 has obtained video of the police interview that was released and which has Coach Pitino so angry.

Karen Sypher claimed that she was raped by U of L Coach Rick Pitino.  LMPD investigated those claims, and this interview is part of that investigation.

On the tape, Sypher described how she met Rick Pitino: "I was walking past and he said, excuse me. And, he made sure that his confidants or whomever he has that take care of him...had made sure, because a lot of people come up to him all the time...and, so I was just passing through. And, excuse me, uhm, Miss, would you like to um. Um, come over here and, I'd like to introduce myself."

When asked why she didn't report the alleged rape that night, Sypher responded, "Because, I was 43 years old, I had four children. I was supposed to be very smart at this, I've never been raped before. I'm supposed to be uhm, I have always been very independent, at taking care of myself. And, I don't know if, I've been told by the doctors that, that I was in shock. I didn't report it, my mother wanted me to report it. But, I just wanted to forget about it.

Police also interviewed Pitino in this case, but they interviewed him at his office in the Yum! Center, so there is no recording of that interview.

LMPD turned over its findings to the Commonwealth's attorney's office, which found there was no evidence to support Sypher's claims.  Pitino was never charged.

He admits to what he calls an indiscretion with Sypher six years ago, and made a public apology earlier this month.

Karen Sypher is charged with trying to extort Pitino.  There is no date yet for her federal trial.
