`Boni Bill' hurt by budget cuts
A Kentucky law is meant to improve safety for social workers apparently is not doing its job. The "Boni Bill" was passed after social worker Boni Frederick was murdered three years ago. Frederick had taken a baby who was in state custody to visit his mother. The mom and her boyfriend stabbed and beat Frederick to death and were later sentenced to life in prison.
Lawmakers have cut back on the money that was supposed to go toward hiring more workers and making security improvements to social service offices. A few state representatives say they'll bring up the issue when the next legislative session starts in January.
