Guest Editorial - Clark County Waste (10/26/09)

The people of Clark County Indiana need to be made aware of the current contract problems with its solid waste district. The district has before it two companies that are willing to handle the processing for its recyclable products. The first -- a Texas-based company -- wants more money, thus costing the taxpayers additional fees, and offers no new services. Meanwhile, a Clark County Company offers a total green package, including partnership programs, lower collection fees for the taxpayers and the creation of new jobs. Yet consideration is still being given to the Texas company.

The position Clark County has taken is 20-plus years behind the rest of the country. Going green demands new innovative ideas that clearly don't sit well with the good ole boy system. We are going green for the planet, not the pockets of politicians.

The Texas company is supported by five board members according to the president of the district.

But there's only one problem:  We haven't had the meeting yet and the Clark County company has not been heard.  I hope the other commissioners know they are voting no to new jobs.

I ask community members to attend the next Solid Waste meeting and look the politicians in the eyes as they propose to dole out the jobs to a Texas Company. Help me send this Texas company back to Texas, and create new jobs in Clark County.

I'm Adam Koch Secretary to the Clark County Men's Democrat Club. I support Democrats that support jobs. And that's my Point of View.
