Bad Healthcare Reform is not better than No Healthcare Reform (12/8/09)
I don't want to be one of the people who are against something without having something better to offer, but in the case of the health care reforms proposed by the Democrats in Congress I see no way to support their position. I'll tell you why:
I believe the bill is flawed. It was hastily cobbled together and it needs to be more carefully crafted so it can really do what we need it to do.
This bill when fully implemented will cost about $2.5 trillion the government simply doesn't have. Short of just printing more money, which is beyond irresponsible, where are we going to get $2.5 trillion dollars?
We are already engaged in two very expensive initiatives. The first is the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and the other is the massive economic stimulus plan. We just can't afford a third right now.
I believe we need to table this terribly expensive bill until we end the war in Afghanistan and until after the government recovers from the stimulus money it put out there.
Let's take our time and put together a better plan, and then implement it when we can afford it.
We all know that health care needs to be reformed. We all know it is expensive and getting more so every year, but rushing to get a bad bill passed that we can't afford is hardly the answer to better health care coverage.
