Louisville - The Evolution Continues (12/10/09)
There are some very exciting things about to happen or happening now that speak directly to the ever improving quality of life in Louisville.
First, Churchill Downs unveiled its plan for HullabaLOU - a three-day, big name music festival set to take place at the historic track next July.
This event is based on the successful New Orleans Jazz Fest, held annually at the Fair Grounds Race Track, which is also owned by Churchill Downs. That festival has evolved into one of the music world's signature events, and it's great to see Churchill taking a shot at establishing a similar kind of tradition here in Louisville.
Meanwhile, on the downtown scene, local businessman Bill Weyland announced exciting plans to develop the southeast corner of Fourth and Chestnut. His vision includes a hotel, condo and parking complex that would establish the kind of solid anchor on the north end of that block that the Brown Hotel provides on the south. It could also become the catalyst for an uninterrupted string of healthy business development all along Fourth Street from Broadway to Main.
And Brown Forman's investment in the Louisville Ballet's all new Nutcracker was a holiday gift for all of us. It is a magical, innovative, well executed example of creativity and imagination and I think you're going to love it! It's just one more example of what makes Louisville special.
