Re-investigating Louisville's cold cases has paid off again. Monday night Louisville Metro Police solved a nearly twenty year old case.
David Hawkins is charged with the 1991 murder of Karen Goodman. The crime happened on South First Street near West Breckinridge Street.
The 46-year-old suspect was already in the Carroll County Jail on unrelated charges. Lt. Barry Wilkerson is with the LMPD Homicide Unit: "The detective went back, re-interviewed some people, found out that someone else may have some information. Mr. Hawkins made some other statements to other people since that point. Obviously that was another advantage for us, talking to other witnesses which gave us new potential witnesses to interview."
Police believe Hawkins and Goodman were fighting when she died on April 8th, 1991. Investigators have sent forensic evidence away for further testing.
