Jack Conway files for U.S. Senate

Democrat Jack Conway has filed his candidacy papers to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Jim Bunning.

Conway officially entered the race Wednesday morning. The move wasn't unexpected. He has been campaigning for months and has raised about $2.5 million for his race.

Conway and Democratic Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo are vying for the seat that has been held by Bunning for the past eleven years. The winner of the Democratic primary in May will likely face a well-funded Republican, two of whom have amassed well over $1 million.

Bunning opted to retire rather than seek re-election.
