My favorite Derby experience was Derby 2009. I have always been a horse lover so the Derby is a big event to me. I got two free tickets to the Derby the day before the race itself, so my friend and I were rushing around Louisville trying to get our Derby hat's and dresses on Derby eve. That next morning we managed to get to Churchill early enough to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere before the Derby race. I had sat in the Grandstand on many other occasions, but never on Derby day. It was so wonderful to see all of the ladies and gentlemen dressed up and to be apart of the festivities was incredible. We definitely made sure to get some mint juleps to drink during the day, and we placed some bets on quite a few of the races. I always get teary eyed when I hear My Old Kentucky home, but being there at Derby in person was such an intense experience. Hearing the call of the race and the roar of the crowd gave me goose bumps, and it was incredible to see the horses run by and feel the ground shake as the horses went thundering down the home stretch. I will never forget this wonderful day, and very much hope to be there in person again soon!
By the way my best bet of the day was $2 across the board on Mine That Bird, which paid off quite well indeed!
