Police: Man brandishes gun at Kentucky State

Police in Frankfort say a man carrying a gun entered Kentucky State University's student center and pointed the weapon at students as he walked through but didn't fire any shots.

There were no injuries. Police spokesman Maj. Fred Deaton says the man pointed the semiautomatic handgun in a threatening way and swore during the incident Tuesday.

Police arrested 23-year-old Christopher Sims of Louisville. Deaton says Sims was inside the student center's computer lab when police arrived and was arrested without incident.

Sims was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.

Kentucky State spokeswoman Felicia Lewis told The State Journal the campus wasn't locked down. Students and staff were alerted through text message, e-mail and campus televisions. Deaton said he didn't know whether Sims was a student at Kentucky State.
