Mayoral Profile: Jonathan Robertson

By Bennett Haeberle WDRB-TV Fox 41 News

Republican Jonathan Roberston has no political experience. But that may not be a bad thing.

"A lot of people are very frustrated with government these days – Republicans and Democrats and they are not sure where to turn," Robertson said. "Hopefully as a citizen candidate, hopefully they feel that I'm a guy that they can bring their issues to and I'll do something about them."

Robertson says Louisvillians need a political outsider. As an information technology consultant, he says – if elected – he'd bring new ideas to the office of Louisville's mayor.

"I sometimes get very frustrated because I feel that I can do a lot and I feel like as a citizen no one is asking me," he said.

He says he's frustrated with stalled projects like Museum Plaza, a 62-story structure he wants to see complete. Construction was halted two years ago after financing fell through.

Robertson says completing that building will bring in much-needed jobs to an area where unemployment is above 10 percent.

"I also feel the building would be a feather in the cap of our city being that it is a unique new design. Something you don't see everyday."

He says the city could save money by conserving energy in buildings like Metro Hall.

"I believe we can apply business principles that I apply to small businesses to make our city much more efficient," he said.

Robertson says he hopes a grass-roots approach will help his candidacy. Recent polls show him trailing Republican challengers Hal Heiner and Chris Thieneman.

"I don't want to make it ugly. I think all of us should stick to the issues because I don't think people want to hear mudslinging."

This is just one in a series of interviews Fox 41's Bennett Haeberle has conducted with the 13 candidates vying to become Louisville's next mayor. Stay tuned for further updates and go to for extended interviews. Click on the 2010 election coverage tab near the top of the home page.
