If I Ruled the World (3/30/10)

Sometimes I like to fantasize about what things would be like if I ruled the world.  This is one of those times.

If I ruled the world, we would take back our language skills and no longer insert the word "like" into every sentence at random.   We would no longer ask, "You know?" over and over because until you tell me, I don't know.  We would lose overused clichés such as "we were in the middle of nowhere,"  "deer in the headlights," "at the end of the day" and "the bottom line." We have a beautiful language and I wouldn't willingly reduce it to a handful of verbal crutches.

If I ruled the world, people would reap what they sow.  If they worked hard they could carve a nice life out for themselves and their families.  If an able, healthy person didn't want to work hard, they would have a much less satisfying life but I would fail to see how that would be my problem.  And I would never be liberal enough to feel that those who worked hard were obligated to take care of those who wouldn't.

If I ruled the world, anyone who molested a child would simply be sterilized.  And anyone who knew about it and covered it up or ignored it would be beyond what I am capable of comprehending.

What would you do if you ruled the world?  Call us and let us know.

I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my…Point of View.
