My First Derby was 2006. As a student at WKU Churchill Downs asked for any students that wanted to do some video work, being from Louisville, I jumped on this opportunity. Little did I know what I was going to experience. Oaks Day arrived and I was sent to the backside to gather some 'sounds from the backside' then I was sent up to Millionaires Row and then to the Infield. Time to get ready for Derby. Time for Derby Day! Arrived at 8am, took a walk on the outside of the track, a walk through the infield then set up for interviews. Not to name drop but we talked to Serena Willians, ZZ Top and Tommy Lee. Time for the race. I was assigned to the paddock and got to be track side. During the post parade I had chills when I heard 'My Old Kentucky Home' then witnessed Barbaro's run, and was able to follow him around the track after the race back to his barn for his post race bath. No other Derby can top my First Derby!
