Guest Editorial – Metro United Way Volunteer Month (4/9/10)
Hello. I'm Joe Tolan, President and CEO of your Metro United Way.
During the month of April, we're celebrating the incredible impact volunteers have on our community.
As part of this Volunteer Month celebration, I'd like to personally thank all volunteers for their service. Your contributions are immeasurable, but here are some numbers to keep in mind:
This year, by connecting with Metro United Way, 15,000 volunteers in the Greater Louisville community have given over 140,000 hours to make our community a better place. Translated into dollars, this is a 2.8 million dollar investment; that fact alone makes it easy to see why volunteers are one of our most valuable local resources.
Metro United Way has a long tradition of connecting volunteers with opportunities, like serving meals to those in need or reading to preschoolers, and we're still the place to go when you want to help.
Our Volunteer Engagement Center can help find meaningful opportunities for you, or your entire family. To find out more about how to get involved, go to our website at www.metrounitedway.org. Or call 211.
Again, I'd like to thank all of the volunteers in our community for making a difference every day. We simply couldn't do it without you. And to those of you choosing to celebrate Volunteer Month by volunteering through Metro United Way, thank you for working towards positive change in our community—for helping us all Live United.
