LUDLOW, Ky. (AP) -- A northern Kentucky woman who became known as the "vigilante mom" for shooting a man in the groin over molestation accusations has died.

Jaymie Lynn Hutchins was 48.

Hutchins, a mother of five, gained national attention when she confronted accused child molester Larry Howell in a parking lot near the Covington Police Station in 2001. Hutchins later told the Kentucky Enquirer she shot Howell after her son told her Howell repeatedly molested him during an 18-month period.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports that Howell is now serving time in the Kentucky State Reformatory for providing drugs to youths and sexually abusing minors. He will be eligible for parole in September 2011.

Hutchins, who worked for the Internal Revenue Service, died at her home Tuesday.
