One person is dead in what witnesses describe as a car veering out of control while speeding.
Harrison County police were dispatched to the scene off Interstate 64 just after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Officers were advised before going to the scene that it was a fatal accident.
Witnesses and evidence describe a vehicle traveling westbound, passing other vehicles in the fast lane, and driving in the median. The driver then lost control of the car, skidding back into westbound lanes, before sliding off the northside of the roadway and hitting a tree.
Harrison County EMS crew pronounced the person dead upon arrival. The driver has not been identified yet.
