Ribbon cutting for Liberty Green community center

Louisville's Liberty Green is living up to its name.  Officials cut the ribbon on this new environmentally-friendly community center Thursday.

The $3 million center features eight one-bedroom public housing apartments, offices, meeting rooms, and classrooms.  It also boasts geothermal heating and cooling and Energy Star appliances, among other green amenities.

Kentucky Third District Representative John Yarmuth said Thursday, "This is an energy-efficient building and eco-friendly building that has amenities that will cut future costs and help preserve the resource we all rely on."

The community center was funded in part by the same federal grant that allowed housing officials to tear down the old Clarksdale Housing Complex and build the new mixed-income Liberty Green community.
