Louisville, Ky. (WDRB-TV, Fox 41) -- Karen Sypher pulled a cross from her blouse and kissed it before she walked into the federal courthouse for the second day of her extortion trial.

Within a few minutes, she would speak to the jury by way of an exclusive Fox 41 News interview played as part of an FBI agent's testimony.    Sypher spoke with our Candyce Clifft in April of last year.

Prosecutors used an hour and ten minutes of the interview to establish Sypher's claims that U of L basketball coach Rick Pitino raped her in a Louisville restaurant in 2003 -- and again at Pitino associate Tim Sypher's condo a few weeks later.  In the video, when asked, "Who raped you?" Sypher answered, "Coach Rick Pitino."

Those are claims the Commonwealth's Attorney and Metro Police later found were without merit.  Prosecutors needed to bring them out to build the foundation for their extortion case.

A segment from the video about that first encounter:

Clifft: "Do you remember telling him no?"
Sypher: "No, absolutely... several times."
Clifft:  "Was there any way he could have misunderstood?"
Sypher: "No. No. Absolutely not."

Sypher is accused of trying to extort money from Pitino in exchange for her silence about their sexual encounters.  In the interview, Sypher said she felt threatened by Pitino when she later told him she was pregnant: "He said, 'This cannot go any further. We have to do something about this. If you mention this to anyone, you and your children will be put in concrete.' And that's when I just froze."

Clifft: "You remember him saying exactly those words?"
Sypher: "I remember him saying exactly those words.

Sypher talked of regretting two abortions -- one after the Pitino encounters in 2003, and another in 2004, after she started dating Tim Sypher, whom she later married.  On the tape, she says,  "I'm a double murderer."
