POLICE: Infants injured by mentally ill grandmother
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- A Louisville woman has been charged with criminal abuse after police say she left her two infant children in the care of her mentally ill mother.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by Fox 41 News, 20-year-old Jessica Ray asked her mother to care for her 2-year-old child and 2-month-old infant for five days, beginning on July 11.
The children's grandmother had previously been diagnosed with mental illness, according to the warrant. Police say Ray had previously signed an agreement with Child Protective Services that she would not place her children in the care of their grandmother, because of her state of mind.
Police say that, On July 11, both children were transported to the hospital by EMS after the grandmother shook them. The 2-month-old also suffered from numerous cuts to the head and face. A report was filed and photos were taken of the injuries.
The children had also been placed in the care of the grandmother in the two weeks prior to the incident, according to the report.
Ray faces one count of 1st degree criminal abuse. Fox 41 News has no information of any charges against the children's grandmother.
