Walk raises money for heart disease

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- It was a big day for Kentuckiana residents who want to stomp out heart disease. About six thousand people made it out for the 2010 Kentuckiana Start-Heart Walk. They gathered at the Great Lawn at Waterfront Park and the southern Indiana Visitor's Center.

The event's goal was $750,000, but its website says it raised $615,000.  As of now, Kentuckiana teams are in second place in fundraising nationwide.

There were two routes to the walk, one three miles and the other a mile. Proceeds go to the American Heart Association.

"A lot of people are walking in the honor or in memory of a loved one who has fought heart disease or stroke. A lot of them just want to contribute to the effort to fight heart disease and stroke, it's personal for most," said Marc Jennings, American Heart Association.

Fox 41 was a proud participant and sponsor of this year's walk. Anchor David Scott took part in the walk and fundraising activities.
