Louisville air travelers get more direct flights on Southwest

Louisville, KY (WDRB, Fox 41)  Southwest Airlines will soon offer direct flights to more major cities from Louisville.  That's because it's buying Airtran for about one point four billion dollars.

The merger moves the airline into 37 new cities giving it the opportunity to expand in AirTran's hubs like Atlanta, Washington D-C, Boston and New York.

Both airlines are known for their low fares.  The deal is expected to close in the first half of next year.

Southwest continues to be the only U-S air carrier that doesn't charge for your first or second checked bag.
