Double hand transplant patient enjoys local sights

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- Doctor Rich Edwards, the Oklahoma chiropractor who received the nation's third double-hand transplant, was walking past the new arena Downtown Louisville.

Several years ago, his SUV caught fire burning 30 percent of his body and leaving his two hands unable to function. The transplants took nearly 18 hours at Jewish Hospital in August.

On Saturday, he was sporting a UofL baseball cap, and says he loves Louisville and the new arena.

"Beautiful day, just enjoying the weather, enjoying my freedom out of the hospital, walking by the Yum! Center, first time we've ever walked by it, wondering what are they going to do for parking," said Edwards.

He says his left hand is doing fantastic. He's keeping his right hand insulated because it doesn't have proper blood flow yet.
