Traffic a breeze at Yum! Center

By: Rachel Collier -

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)--Many people have been counting down to the Eagles concert. It kicked off the opening of the KFC Yum! Center Saturday night.

But many people were anxious over potential traffic problems. Since the center is new, many people did not know what to expect, but traffic ended up being a non-issue.

"Yes! Eagles, Hotel California!" A group of women are hollering out their favorite songs, and are ready for the concert.

Tickets in hand, they are ready to rock and roll. Eagles fans are also eager to finally check out the Yum! Center.

"Oh, it's beautiful! Very nice," said Wanda Schumann.

One UK fan described it as "massive," quite a compliment coming from Patricia Williams, who was sporting a UK shirt.

When asked how she thought the Yum! Center compared to UK's Rupp Arena, she said, "much nicer, much nicer."

We could not help but notice many people proudly wearing wildcat blue inside the new home of the cardinals.

The Yum! Center is huge, but guides helped people find their way around for the main event--The Eagles.

16,000 people attended the concert, and many thought traffic would be terrible. Surprisingly, getting to the arena was a breeze, and locals new just what to do.

"We go to the (Louisville) Bats games, so we know to park near Main and Market," said Schumann.

"We parked about 3 blocks away, wasn't bad at all," said Steve Strutz, referring to the traffic.

Lt. Doug Sweeney, who is in charge of the traffic plan, said he was pleased with traffic before the concert. He said it will take practice at many events to get the traffic plans down to a science.
