Six years on the run, alleged murderer indicted
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- A grand jury has indicted a man for a murder that took place six years ago.
On Friday, police arrested Anthony Wayne Riggs for the October 19, 2004 murder of his roommate, 67-year-old James Denney.
According to a police report obtained by Fox 41 News, the Louisville Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 3400 block of Powell Avenue on the above date. Once the fire was out, they found a man's body -- Riggs' roommate -- inside the home.
At least three witnesses told police that Riggs and his roommate had been fighting in the days before the fire -- and that Riggs had assaulted him at least once before.
Police say that Riggs also, "recently told at least three witnesses on separate occasions [that] he killed the victim and got away with it."
Riggs is charged with murder and arson. Originally, it was thought that Denney had died from the fire itself, but the coroner later ruled the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and manual strangulation.
