Police: driver had man's body hanging from truck

LAKE STATION, Ind. (AP) -- Police in northwest Indiana say officers who stopped a speeding driver found the body of a man he had fatally hit in the back of his pickup truck.

Lake County court documents say an officer spotted blue jeans hanging from the truck's tailgate when he caught up with it in Lake Station late Saturday.

The Post-Tribune reports officers found the body of 52-year-old Paul Williams of Lake Station in the truck's bed. Prosecutors on Monday filed several charges against 26-year-old William Albrecht Jr. of Hobart, including felony driving while intoxicated causing death.

The Times of Munster reports that authorities believe Albrecht drove for nearly a mile after hitting Williams. No telephone number was listed for Albrecht, and the Lake County prosecutor's office didn't have record of a defense attorney.
