River shuttle service for U of L games

Louisville, KY (WDRB Fox 41)  U of L basketball fans who don't want to fight all the traffic going to games at the KFC YUM! Center will have another option.    They can get there aboard the Spirit River Shuttle.

Tuesday evening, the city of Jeffersonville held an open house to promote the fact it's going to offer water shuttle service to 21 of U of L's 23 home games   The city has chartered the Spirit of Jefferson.  It will leave from Riverside Landing and stop at Louisville's 4th Street Wharf, just west of the Yum! Center.

Parking is free, and the cost for the shuttle is ten dollars round trip.  The goal is not only convenience for the hundreds of fans coming from southern Indiana, but also to boost business for hotels and restaurants on the north side of the river.

Jeffersonville mayor Tom Galligan says, "We think it'll help our community, and it'll showcase our community so that people not only come for this but come back to the other events we have, because they become familiar with it."

Each trip across the river takes about ten minutes.  Jeffersonville officials say they need 400 people to use he service each game to break even.  They say if that doesn't happen, they may cancel the service after six games.
