LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- The Director of the Louisville Metro Health Department is saying goodbye to friends and colleagues. Doctor Adewale Troutman was celebrated Tuesday night. He's leaving to take a new position at the University of South Florida as the Director of South Florida's Public Health Practice and Public Health. He'll also be a full professor.

Mayor Jerry Abramson, Congressman John Yarmuth, and several Metro Council members were there as Troutman got emotional.

"If my mama could see me now, a kid from the Bronx who was told by his high school guidance counselor he was not college material and told by his junior high school counselor to be an auto mechanic because he didn't have brain to do nothing else," said Dr. Adewale Troutman, Director, Metro Public Health Dept.

Dr. Matt Zahn will take over as Dr. Troutman's interim replacement. Dr. Troutman's wife, Denise Vazquez Troutman is also resigning as President and CEO of The Center for Women and Families.
