Suspended quarterback Hartline assists at practice

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Former Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline reappeared on the practice field to help the Wildcats prepare for a bowl game, but only to help other players.

Hartline's time at Saturday's practice marked the first time he had shown up since being suspended earlier this month for his final game after being arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Wildcats coach Joker Phillips told The Lexington Herald Leader that Hartline is "part of this football family" and assisted younger quaterbacks.

Kentucky takes on Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 8. Sophomore Morgan Newton will start for the Wildcats.

Hartline entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
