A Meade County woman will appear before a judge sometime Wednesday, to hear charges of theft deception involving a holiday charity.

28-year old Amanda Beard allegedly got toys and clothing for her children, courtesy of the popular Shop-With-A-Cop program. But the Meade County Sheriff, William Kerrick says Beard returned some of the items to the stores in Brandenburg and Louisville for cash refunds.

Kerrick says store surveillance from the Cox's Variety Store caught Beard in the act. She's charged with theft by deception under $300.00.

Sheriff Kerrick tells Fox 41, "Me being a police officer for 39-years, you know, being retired from Louisville Metro Police and everything else, you know we did Shop-With-A-Cop. This is a time of giving for needy children."

Sheriff Kerrick and others in the community say there will be a happy outcome for the holidays. That's because many people are stepping up with donations to make sure the children will have something under the Christmas Tree.
