"Karat" cake to be featured at Barnstable-Brown party
LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB Fox 41) -- You might call it "karat" cake. A 23-karat-gold cake that you can eat will be featured at the Barnstable-Brown Derby Eve Gala.
A select few got to sample the expensive bourbon cake on Wednesday. It costs $2500 and arrived at the Barnstable house in a Brinks armored car. It was escorted up the driveway by the guards.
Adam Burckle of Kentucky Woods explains, "We literally gilded it with 23k edible gold. They are going to wrap each walnut in gold, we're gonna wrap the entire cake in gold. It's soaked with Parker's Heritage bourbon which is a $200 bottle of bourbon."
The cake is the Barnstables' way of doing something unique for this year's party. It is the most expensive single cake in Kentucky, and only three will be made.
