Jockey Robby Albarado arrested for assault

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- Louisville Metro Police say a Louisville jockey has been arrested for allegedly attacking and choking his wife.

37-year-old Robby Albarado was taken into custody late Thursday night. According to an arrest report, 911 dispatchers received a call from Albarado's home in the 15,000 block of Meadow Farms Court, near Old Henry Rd. -- but the caller quickly disconnected.

When police arrived, they allegedly found Albarado and his wife in a domestic violence dispute. Police say his wife said a discussion concerning their relationship became heated and Albarado started yelling and grabbed her cell phone, refusing to give it back. At one point, she said he grabbed her arm, and when they went upstairs, he shoved her up against the wall.

That's when, police say, she called 911 and he disconnected the phone, throwing it on the floor and breaking it. When his wife ran to another room to grab a phone, Albarado allegedly broke that one.

At one point during the argument, police say Albarado choked his wife and caused red marks around her neck.

Albarado was arrested and charged with assault, wanton endangerment and intimidating a participant in a legal process. His wife refused treatment by EMS.

Albarado is a prominent local jockey who has won two Breeders' Cup victories, according to his biography on BredersCup.com. The first victory came in 2007 when he rode Curlin, and the second was in 2009 when he guided Tapitsfly.
