S. Ind. city loans winery $75,000 for patio

MADISON, Ind. (AP) -- A southern Indiana city has loaned a winery $75,000 to build an outdoor seating area that will feature a bread-baking hearth.

The Madison Courier reports that Madison's revolving-loan committee granted the Thomas Family Winery the low-interest, 15-year loan on Wednesday. Owner Steve Thomas says some of the money will go toward paying off a contract for a plot of land east of the winery where the patio and outdoor seating will be built.

He says the rest will go toward transforming the lot into a landscaped, three-season patio with an outdoor kitchen. That kitchen will include a fireplace with a brick hearth where breads can be baked.

Thomas says the patio will allow his winery to hold more receptions and more events.
