David Williams reports $36K in gambling losses

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)-- Senate President David Williams is answers questions about $36,000 in gambling losses he reported in court paperwork.

The Republican from Burkesville is running for governor and has been a staunch opponent of expanded gambling in Kentucky.

According to divorce papers filed in Cumberland County in 2003, Williams reported having gambling losses in a four year period from 1999 to 2002.

The records were first uncovered by the Lexington Herald- Leader.

Williams has admitted to gambling. But he says he does not think that is hypocritical or inconsistent with his past statements against expanded gambling.

He says it's not in the best interest of the state. Williams did not return our calls Saturday night.

His likely opponent, Gov. Steve Beshear, has made failed attempts to expanded gambling in Kentucky as part of a way to create revenue for the state.
