LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- Jefferson County now has the largest hybrid school bus fleet in the country.

The school system was presented with 16 hybrid electric school buses today -- that's with the help of federal stimulus dollars meant to help public schools become more eco-friendly.

It's also supposed to save on fuel costs.

"We have 30-40 percent savings -- that's an extraordinary savings," said JCPS Superintendent Sheldon Berman. "We're looking forward to being leaders in this, and having a fleet that will establish the credibility of hybrid buses."

The buses cost about $150 thousand each -- that's about twice as much as traditional school buses.
