Located at Gate 1 of Churchill Downs, the Museum offers two floors of exciting exhibits giving visitors an in-depth look into Thoroughbred racing and the Kentucky Derby, the first jewel in racing's Triple Crown. 

It's My Derby:
Hear personal accounts from fans about their favorite Derby memories which have been archived from throughout the community. Dream of your ultimate Derby chapeaux when visiting our annual hat contest exhibit. Fabulous Derby outfits from Anna Nicole Smith, Penny Chenery and Bill Samuels are shown here along with other pieces that share the fun of fashion at Derby.

The Winners Circle:
Have your photo taken in the famous Winners Circle. See trophies from past Kentucky Derbys.

My Spot:
This exhibit illustrates the many ways to participate in and enjoy the Derby. Explore Derby from Millionaires Row down to the infamous Infield.

Warner L. Jones, Jr. Time Machine:
Select and view film footage of Derbys as far back as 1918. Included with the footage are interviews with the winning jockeys, trainers and owners.

Riders Up:
Mount a simulated horse and try to maintain the jockey's stance for two minutes- the time it takes to run 1.25 mile track on Derby day. Race against your friends to the finish line!

Callers Experience first-hand the difficult job of the announcer on Derby Day. Step inside our sound-proof booth, watch the video screen and speak into the microphone as you attempt to call a race.

"The Greatest Race" is the culmination of the first floor experience. "The Greatest Race" employs high-definition film technology to bring the Derby story alive. It is the first 360-degree high-definition presentation in the world and it is annually updated in June, capturing the most recent Kentucky Derby victory.

Test Your Derby IQ:
Challenge your knowledge of the Derby and it's traditions. Play against a clock or in groups to compete against one another for the title of Derby expert.

Birth, First Year, Bloodlines:
Learn about the birth of foals and the daily life of yearlings on a thoroughbred farm at our. Told from the point of view of the breeder himself, hear about the breeding process, the optimal time for the birth of a foal, and the physiological signs of a winning horse.

Making Their Mark Experience what it is like to own a Thoroughbred. Create your own silks and learn about the naming process. Hear the owner's reflections on the
Kentucky Derby and the horse racing experience.

Jockey Stories:
Pound for pound, jockeys are the strongest athletes. They have been trained to control an animal often 10 times their weight. Try on the silks and weigh in for your day as a jockey.

Starting Gate:
Climb on up inside the starting gate and have your photo taken on our replica horse.
